Woody Gunnoe has spent a lifetime working in various aspects of the food industry. A native of Princeton, West Virginia, he began his career at the A&P Tea Company working his way up the corporate ladder to hold several key positions in the company. Woody then progressed into the wholesale grocery business earning accolades for building sales to several hundred million dollars in revenue per year. In 1994, he accepted a position with Astro Food Equipment and purchased the company six years later. We met with Woody recently, and listened as he provided this overview of the products and services his company offers;

Astro Food Equipment, founded in the late 1960s, has become the area's premier distributor of commercial foodservice equipment. We sell everything from toothpick holders to plates, silverware, tables and chairs, and commercial cooking and refrigeration equipment. We represent over one hundred lines of equipment and are distributors for Henny Penny, Globe, Amtekco, American Range, Super Systems, Doyan, Middleby Marshall, and Berkel. Our completely remodeled showroom features a large inventory of both new and used equipment.

Our customers include Wendy's, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Chik-Fil-A, Giant Eagle, Heinen's, and we recently installed equipment in all of the Buehler's Food Markets throughout Ohio. We sell foodservice equipment to churches, educational institutions, prisons, hospitals, and all types of businesses involved in commercial food preparation regardless of size. Our major market areas are Ohio and West Virginia, although we also service parts of Michigan and Pennsylvania, as well.

We are a very hands-on operation and work closely with the businesses we serve. As part of our consulting services, we sit down with customers to discuss their needs, help them design effective and efficient layouts for their establishments, and offer insight on the selection of equipment. We are the only foodservice equipment company in Ohio that I know of that offers all of this expertise at no cost.

We have a very close-knit group of employees who are dedicated to providing our customers with the finest service available. My daughter, son-in-law, and two grandsons work with me, and all of my key people have been with us for many years and know the business up one side and down the other. Our technicians are factory trained and schooled in proper equipment maintenance and service, and are available for service calls twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
